Simple Chocolate Cake

This is a great recipe for a basic no-fuss chocolate cake, and you only need one bowl! Anything that means less washing up gets a big thumbs up from me.
I have a stonking great headache so I won't go on and on as I usually do ;)
Chocolate buttercream would make an excellent filling if you plan on making a sandwich cake, or if you're doing a standard 8in round cake or cupcakes.
If you're looking for a cake that suits a special occassion or want the chocolatiest cake of all time, I'd recommend having a look at my chocolate fudge cake recipe - nothing, NOTHING, has come close to beating that cake yet.
Anyway, let's get to baking.
*side note* apple cider vinegar is easily bought from supermarkets, no more than £1.50 a bottle which will last you absolutely ages, so don't be put off!

You will need a 8in round cake tin, greased or lined with baking parchment. Or, 2 round sandwich tins, Or a 12 hole cupcake pan with 12 cupcake cases.

Ingredients:

1 & 1/4 cup plain flour
1 cup white or caster sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup warm water
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Preheat oven to gas mark 5/180c/350f

In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt together. Add the warm water, vanilla, oil and vinegar. Stir until combined.
Pour mixture into your cake tin/s and give the tin a quick tap on the side to expell any air bubbles.
Bake on the middle shelf of your preheated oven for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool on a wire rack and ice with your icing of choice.
